Antenatal Classes and Hypnobirthing

Antenatal classes and Hypnobirthing at The Bump to Baby Chapter are run by midwives Beth and Kate. Find out more about them here.   As registered midwives with a background in antenatal education they are able to offer up-to-date, local information.

There are two courses to choose from:

  1. Hypnobirthing

  2. Antenatal classes (Both Cheltenham and Gloucester venues)

 Antenatal classes

Which includes topics such as:

  • Stages of labour
  • Coping strategies/ hypnobirthing basics for childbirth
  • Cesarean birth
  • Induction of labour
  • Post natal care
  • Newborn care
  • Baby First Aid (optional extra)

**Exclusive** As we only want the best for our Bump to Baby chapter mamas we have invited Kate Starkey from Cheltenhammaman to come along to our antenatal class (last session) on the fourth trimester as we don’t JUST want to prep you for a positive birth we want you to enjoy and feel confident about life in the fourth trimester too. She will be covering what Cheltenham and Gloucester offer mums in the area, maternity leave resources 💡 and what to expect post birth. This fourth trimester special will truly kit you out for all things in the mother hood.

The aim of the antenatal classes, are to make you feel empowered through having knowledge. Equipping you and your birth partner with confidence about childbirth and your new life as parents. Being both mothers and midwives we can provide you with honest and real information, accompanied with top tips to make you fully prepared for any choices you may have to make. Being hypnobirthing teachers we also sneak a few hypnobirthing techniques into class to equip you with coping strategies for a positive birth.  The classes are very informal and relaxed, so relaxed that we even make use of the bar at the hotel, where drinks are on us. The dads usually make use of this to have a beer at break… cheers!

There is an added bonus to antenatal classes and that is making a new set of fellow parents-to-be to share the new chapter of your life with. Being part of a community through your pregnancy and parenthood journey is so valuable. We are keen to add to the social factor as we believe that it is so important to find your village. That’s why we co-host the buggy walks in Cheltenham every week, to provide a platform for mothers to have a solid support network from other mums. We also always have a post natal meet up over drinks (and normally cake) as a chance to catch up with your new arrivals.

The antenatal classes are for any expectant parent, whether it is your first pregnancy, second or third. It is for parents regardless of mode of birth, so if you have your cesarean section booked this course is still for you.

When, Where & Cost?

The antenatal education course runs over four evenings (Thursdays or Mondays) between 7-9pm. We also arrange the reunion on a date suitable for all.

The cost of the course is £225 per couple.

It is recommended that you book your antenatal classes to start around week 28-34.  Also, if you book within these times then your friends that you meet on the course will be having their babies around the same time.

We currently are offering the course at two venues The Hatherley Manor Hotel, Gloucester and Boston Tea Party, Cheltenham.

Antenatal Classes Gloucester

The relaxing, chilled and vintage look of The Hatherley Manor Hotel, set in the tranquil countryside provide (Thursday) evenings filled with good company, tea/coffee, a free bar and shortbread! They have free parking, offers plenty of character and oozes serenity. The perfect combination for our modern take on antenatal classes. It is perfectly located for easy access from Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury.

We have just launched new antenatal classes in Cheltenham. We will be coming to Boston Tea Party on a Monday night. It will be an evening filled with friends, cake, smoothies and coffee in the quirky interiors of the cafe. Evenings that even your non- pregnant friends will be envious of.

Hypnobirthing Cheltenham

These are women only courses that run over one day.

Hypnobirthing Essential Days include:

  • Breathing techniques
  • Deep relaxation
  • Tips for a positive birth
  • Birth affirmations
  • Understanding hormones and the body and how it is built to give birth
  • Understanding the mind and how your mind plays a role in your birth experience
  • Goody bag with all the essentials to continue your hypnobirthing journey

The Hypnobirthing Essential days are for any expectant mother but are popular with second (or more) time mothers who want to feel more control of their birth this time around. The hypnobirthing course focuses on techniques such as breathing, deep relaxation and birth affirmations, providing you with the tools for a positive, calm and confident birth. Part of hypnobirthing is learning ways of how your body accommodates childbirth. Understanding what is happening to your body enables you to build confidence in your body and it’s ability to give birth. Mothers who have done hypnobirthing are quick to spread their love of birth by telling others their positive birth stories.

When, Where & Cost?

The Hypnobirthing Essentials day runs over a Saturday, 10 am – 4.30 pm.

You can come on a hypnobirthing course at any point from 20 weeks. The earlier you start, the more time you have to practise the techniques.

The cost of the course including lunch is £185.

We currently are holding Hypnobirthing Cheltenham at The Greenways Spa, Shurdington Road, Cheltenham.
